After five long years of submitting applications, a Community Living family was recently approved for a home by Habitat for Humanity. The family - who also receives services from Community Living Kawartha Lake's Family Support program - is pleased with their new Buckhorn area home and appreciates the contributions made towards its completion by Community Living volunteers.
On a very hot and sticky May 31st a group of employees from Community Living Kawartha Lakes arrived at the home, ready and willing to be put to work. We were kept busy during the day with painting, vacuuming up drywall dust and doing general clean-up around the house. We worked along side 14 other volunteers from all walks of life. Many of the other volunteers came from the Anglican Deanery of Peterborough and District and the Christ Lutheran congregations, who fundraised more than $40,000 in order to make the building of the house possible.
It was a great opportunity for Community Living Kawartha Lakes to be part of such a worthwhile and rewarding project like this one for Habitat for Humanity. The family is very deserving and feels extremely blessed to be the recipients of a beautiful new home. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this dream a reality.

Community Living in the news
We've had a great deal of local media attention lately with the most recent being Lindsay Daily Post's coverage of our Skate-A-Thon Bowling & Pizza Party. Held this June at Lindsay's Bowl-A-Rama, the party celebrated the classmates who raised the most pledges out of all the schools participating in our annual spring Skate-A-Thon & Dance-A-Thon. This honour is held by the Pope John Paul School in Lindsay. Thank you to Board Member Donna Carmichael and Community Living Kawartha Lakes staff representative Norma Curtis for a job well done!
CHEX TV and the Lindsay Daily Post also covered the newly-formed partnership between Job Quest and the City of Kawartha Lakes, Health and Social Services Department. This initiative entails Job Quest providing intensive employment supports to low-income residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes and the County of Haliburton. Thank you to Dorla Pearn and the Job Quest Team and, again, to Board Member Donna Carmichael for her involvement. Great job everyone!
