How the Bottles are Cleaned
- We can clean 375 ml, 500 ml, 750 ml and 1 litre bottles.
- Bottles are first soaked and the labels are removed.
- Bottles are then pre-washed to remove any heavy soiling inside the bottles.
- Bottles are loaded into our new Automatic Bottle Washing System. This system is a machine that hot washes and thoroughly rinses 25 bottles inside and out in a 90-second cycle.
- The machine washes bottles at 120 to 140 degree Fahrenheit water temperature to ensure thorough cleaning and sterilization.
- Bottles are cleaned and sterilized with a safe sanitizing agent.
Our machine was designed and purchased from Carafe Wine Makers International of Mississauga, Ontario. They use this machine in their own stores, with their own customers.
The purchase of the new equipment was made possible through a Federal grant from the Community Futures Development Corporation. In addition to covering costs to purchase and install the machine, the grant also provided for training in the use of the equipment.

Jobs'R'Us
Working Hard for Our Customers
In this section, we share with you just a few examples of the work that we do for our current customers.
Woodworking
At this time, our woodworking business focuses primarily on the production of hydro stakes for the towns of Lindsay, Fenelon Falls, Peterborough and Minden. Jobs'R'Us woodworkers measure, cut and paint the hydro stakes and, when necessary, also ensure delivery to our customers.
The woodworking team will also, on request, cut and prepare garden stakes for local green thumbs. Workers measure, cut, paint and bundle the gardening stakes, which they make from wood scraps.
Do you have a woodworking project with which we could help? Please contact us for more information. We can also be reached at (705) 340-0146 or via fax at (705) 328-0495.
Packaging, Collating & Assembly
Currently, much of our collating work focuses on folding and inserting letters, flyers and church bulletins. We also assemble small items and prepare their packaging. For example, we attach castors on boards for one customer. For another - Pickseed - we apply labels to bags of grass seed.
Many packaging, collating and assembly jobs are seasonal or one-time, depending on what the customer needs. Pricing is based on a study of the time required to complete the task.
Do you have a job with which we could help? Please contact us for more information. We can also be reached at (705) 340-0146 or via fax at (705) 328-0495.
Tin Cans
Our 'tin can work' is a joint venture that was initiated by the local Humane Society. The Society had volunteers collecting cans with the goal of raising money for the spaying and neutering of animals in the shelter. However, the Humane Society was finding it more than a challenge to arrange the time and space to crush and store the cans. They contacted Jobs'R'Us and a partnership was struck.
The Humane Society takes care of publicity and provides containers for the collection of cans. The Jobs'R'Us team takes care of crushing, packaging and taking the cans in for weighing and sale.
Half of the proceeds raised through the sale of the cans go back to the Jobs'R'Us business; the other half of the proceeds is used for the spay and neuter program at the Humane Society.
Do you have cans to donate? Please contact us for more information. We can also be reached by phone at (705) 340-0146 or via fax at (705) 328-0495.
Cans can also be dropped off anytime between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at our location, 107 Lindsay Street South (south entrance at the Kawartha Lakes Boys & Girls Club building).
Taking Care of Business!
In addition to providing products and services to our customers, we also take part in all aspects of business management. For each business activity, we assign a Jobs'R'Us member as the 'lead hand.' The lead hand is responsible to ensure that everything on the job is completed properly - from planning and ordering to production, packaging and sales. Assistant lead hands provide support to the lead hand when needed.
Jobs'R'Us members learn every aspect of business - including working with customers on the phone and in person, taking orders, managing projects, delivering invoices, and accepting and signing for cheques. By taking responsibility every step of the way, our members learn how to act professionally - thus putting the focus on their service rather than on their disabilities.
Lunch is Served!
Here at Jobs'R'Us we also take care of one another. Every Friday we prepare lunch from start to finish.
We start by getting together and deciding on our menu for the coming months. When choosing our meals, we use the Canada Food Guide to ensure that we are preparing healthy fare.
Having decided upon our menus, we prepare our shopping lists and head out every Friday to pick up the lunchtime groceries.
Meal preparation is started upon our return from the supermarket so that lunch can be ready by noon sharp. Afterwards, we do clean-up and leave the kitchen clean and ready for our next culinary creation.
Jobs'R'Us members share all mealtime responsibilities. For example, one team might pick up the groceries while another prepares and serves the meal. As with every aspect of our business, our work is truly a team effort.

Changes We're Making to Serve You Better
This has been an exciting year at Jobs'R'Us. We have made, and will be making, a number of changes to serve our customers better. Here are just a few examples of what we have been up to in 2005:
- We purchased an Automatic Bottle Washing System. Until we were able to purchase this new technology, we have had to do all of our wine bottle business by hand. This new automated system hot washes and thoroughly rinses 25 bottles inside and out in a 90-second cycle. It washes bottles at 120 to 140 degree Fahrenheit water temperature to ensure thorough cleaning and sterilization.
The purchase of the new equipment was made possible through a Federal grant from the Community Futures Development Corporation. In addition to covering costs to purchase and install the machine, the grant also provided for training in the use of the machine.
- We have recently repainted our workspace in the Jobs'R'Us colours of yellow and blue. Thank you very much to Sharon and Rod Coupland for committing to this huge undertaking and painting on the weekend so that the work at Jobs'R'Us was not interrupted. Great job!
- We are in the process of setting up a reception area and show room so that we can better greet and serve our customers when they come by our Jobs'R'Us location. Our new receptionists are already in training and ready to go. Our new reception area will include a display case of, and information about, our products and services.
- Our new reception area will include at least one computer through which we will be linked to the main Community Living Kawartha Lakes offices. We will also be able to process our business paperwork using the computer.
- We have put together a Jobs'R'Us portfolio featuring our wine bottle cleaning services. This information portfolio is available to anyone interested in learning more about this important service as part of our marketing blitz. To order your copy, see the contact information below.
- We have partnered with the City of Kawartha Lakes and go around every second Thursday with residential recycle pick-up to collect wine bottle in Lindsay. We hope to expand this service and are already exploring a similar arrangement in Bobcaygeon.
- We are also working with the City of Kawartha Lakes to set up a unit at the landfill site in Lindsay.
- We are working with local liquor stores to set up bins to collect empty wine bottles. So far, three Lindsay stores - River Wine Works, Village Winery and House Wines - have signed up to help out.
- We are exploring other options for wine bottle pick-up, for example making arrangements with restaurants and golf courses.
- For more updates on what we're doing at Jobs'R'Us, be sure to visit the news page of this website regularly.
